Mathematics
At Maraetai Beach School mathematics is taught for an average of 60 minutes per day including dedicated lessons as well as integrating maths into other curriculum areas such as science. This helps them to see the relevance of maths and how it connects to real life.
Successful Maraetai Beach School mathematicians:
Ask questions when they don’t understand
Explain their thinking so others can understand
Use different ways to show their solutions
Revise their thinking when they learn new information or strategies
Understand that mistakes are learning opportunities
Value a deep understanding not speed
Check that their solution is sensible
Check back in with the problem and what it is asking
Support other mathematicians to develop their understanding
